Consumer Reports Now Offers Free Credit Checkups

Your credit report is vital to your financial well-being.  Home loans, auto insurance rates, and even job applications can all be affected by a person’s credit report.  But credit reports often contain errors, such as another person’s debts appearing on your file, which can cripple your financial stability.  According to the results of a study published by the Federal Trade Commission in 2012, one in five consumers had an error on at least one of their three credit reports.

Considering the extent to which the consumer economy depends on credit reports, the credit bureaus that maintain and furnish them face an enormous responsibility to do so transparently and accurately.

Understanding what is on your credit report has never been easier, thanks to the organization Consumer Reports, which now allows individuals to sign up for free assistance in checking their credit report.

Consumers can sign up at https://action.consumerreports.org/creditcheckup.  From there, Consumer Reports will show you how to check your credit report and what errors to look for.  Additionally, you can provide confidential data to Consumer Reports that will help them recommend regulatory reforms based on what is in your credit file.  The entire process is free of charge.

Additionally, if your report does contain errors, contact our offices, and a member of our staff will discuss your report with you free of charge.  We can help correct errors and, if you were harmed by an error, obtain any damages you may be entitled to.
